Good obedience is about far more than teaching your dog to sit, stay and come when called.

It is about developing clear communication, reliable responses, focus and control — even when the world around you becomes distracting.

At Tipulo Canine, we move away from the chaotic environment of traditional, overcrowded village hall classes.

Instead, we welcome you and your dog to our beautiful, calm outdoor training grounds at Haresfoot Park, Berkhamsted. Here, your dog can develop practical obedience around real-world distractions - including other dogs, people and horses - in a controlled, structured setting.

Our aim is simple: to help make your everyday life with your dog easier, more enjoyable and more reliable.

Whether you're dealing with an adolescent dog that has started to test the boundaries, an adult dog that needs more consistency, or simply want to take your dog's training to the next level, our approach is practical, progressive and tailored to you and your dog.

Led by Michael Bannister BSc (Hons) ABIPDT, an Associate Member of the British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers with over 30 years' of experience, our Dog Obedience Programme is built around simple, structured and highly effective training techniques.

We don't just teach individual commands; we focus on the skills your dog needs to respond reliably in everyday situations.

Our Dog Obedience syllabus is carefully structured to develop greater understanding, consistency and control, progressing from established foundations towards reliable real-world obedience.

We focus on five core pillars:

Focus & Engagement

Building your dog's ability to pay attention to you and remain engaged, even when there are distractions around them.

Reliable Recall

Developing a fast, enthusiastic response when called, helping you achieve greater freedom and confidence when exercising your dog.

Lead Walking & Control

Developing calm, controlled walking and better communication on the lead, helping to make everyday walks more enjoyable.

Impulse Control & Reliability

Teaching your dog to listen, think and respond rather than simply reacting to the environment around them.

Working Around Real-World Distractions

Developing your dog's ability to remain focused and responsive around other dogs, people, horses and the many distractions encountered in an outdoor environment.

Our six-week Boutique Dog Obedience Programme is limited to a maximum of 5 dogs per group, ensuring you receive individual guidance, feedback and attention throughout the course.

The programme is suitable for adolescent and adult dogs and covers practical obedience, focus, recall, loose-lead walking, impulse control, polite greetings, retrieve, calm behaviour and working around distractions including horses.
